The new game coming out this fall called “The Dark Ones” will feature some pretty damn scary villains that are going to be made even scarier once they start making their way into your living rooms. Silver Chains, a brand new game is part of a new trend of horror games hitting the market this year. This is a game that is truly terrifying and I can’t wait for everyone to get their hands on it when it comes out for the fall. I know I’ll be one of the first. Here’s more of what we know about this upcoming game.

Based on the true story of a serial killer who was convicted of multiple murders, The Dark Ones looks to be a combination of a puzzle-solving adventure and horror game combined into one. The story is set around two years after the main crime took place, and here, you’ll find that solving puzzles and avoiding nightmares is just not enough to keep you safe from this maniac. The game plays out like a nightmare, as you’ll find yourself trapped in a small town with nothing but dark rooms and teenage girls. The only way to escape is to uncover the secret behind each of the girls’ deaths, and that means using some advanced skill-building techniques in order to succeed. On top of that, silver chains will be needed, and I don’t think there’s anything that could make them scarier (and more useful).

Although this is a bit of a horror game in nature, it isn’t without some light puzzle-solving and exploration elements. If anything, these two things are usually combined well to create a successful game. I particularly loved how the storyline evolved throughout the game. Each scene featured a new mystery that had to be solved, and the scenes generally didn’t jump back to the point where you solved the last one. This kept me interested and gave me a good chance to learn some new things about each of the girls involved, which helped the gameplay stay interesting.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to save Manor from its thrills and chills. In fact, the bulk of the game takes place in a manor. There’s a gory fairytale theme that plays on constantly throughout the game, and thankfully, doesn’t overstay its welcome. However, the manor itself is a lot of work, and can be quite terrifying for first-timers. If you have fear of heights, or even just like creepy places, then you may find this game a little too terrifying.

But don’t fear; the manor is not the only place that’s packed with nasty monsters. Theres also a series of haunted house attractions that can give your stomach a real workout. There’s something for everyone here; you can play the standard creepy guy scenarios where you’re left with no choices but to kill the monster or run for your life. Or, you can take on the serial killer type of haunted house. The variety of scenarios is probably one of the best parts of the game, as it means that players can jump in and out of any situation to experience a new terrifying scenario.

The puzzles in Manor Nights: The Moonlight Sonatas aren’t the usual, mind-screwing puzzles you’d expect. Most are quite cleverly designed, using a mixture of audio and visual clues to help you solve the mystery. However, some of the more challenging scenes require some trial and error on your part. Fortunately, the help system makes it easy to track down help if you get stuck, making Manor Nights: The Moonlight Sonatas one of the best ghost and horror games on the Wii.

Although the visuals are mostly picture perfect, the picture quality does occasionally suffer when you’re moving or typing on the console. It doesn’t cause much of a problem, however, as it’s not something you really have to be aware of. As mentioned, the voice over the PlayStation version gives most scenes a eerie tone, which fits the overall atmosphere of this first-person horror game just fine.

Manor Nights: The Moonlight Sonatas is just another example of how first-person games can scare the be-Jesus out of people. Although it isn’t as atmospheric as other titles in the genre, it’s definitely a memorable title. It’s just as creepy! So if you want a creepy first-person video game with plenty of scares, this is the game for you. Plus, since it’s a first-person game, you’ll get a great sense of adventure as you explore old abandoned manor houses like the one depicted in the game.
